Welcome! My name is Rowena Gupta, and I’m the founder and director of The Social Shopper. Both shopping, and digital marketing are passions of mine, so I decided to merge these two loves together to help small businesses across Australia.

I have spent the past 17 years working in both traditional and online media (yes, the internet is that old!).Through my journey, I have seen the role of the internet change from a push medium where we consumed news and information from big media companies, to a truly interactive social environment which is instrumental in our daily lives. Hence the term “social media” was born, and it’s used to describe the two way conversations happening online between family, friends, colleagues, and businesses – big and small.

Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr, You Tube, Linked In, or numerous others that are probably launching as we speak, there is a place for everyone to connect and discuss the things that matter most to them. Whilst big businesses have huge teams and dedicated agencies looking after their social media channels, small businesses shouldn’t be afraid to jump right in and give it a go. Having a presence on social media is a great way to build a loyal following of your best customers who are excited to talk about and recommend your business or product to their friends. Haven’t you always been told that word of mouth is best way to grow business? – the same rules apply in social media. Whether you use social media for customer feedback, to get opinions about new products, to inform your customers, or to reward loyal behavior – there is a channel for everyone.

I realise that running a small business can be difficult (I’ve run several of my own), and the one thing that is true of all success stories is to stick to what you’re good at. Wearing many hats in your own business can mean you have little time left to think about developing your marketing strategy, and even less time to invest getting it off the ground and maintaining it. Via The Social Shopper, we help small business across Sydney showcase their products, services and expertise via social media, and most importantly, connect in conversations with their prospective, and existing customers.
